Since January 2020, officers with the 1 District (St. Catharines) Detective Office have been investigating numerous similar graffiti tags that have been appearing around the City of St. Catharines.
Detectives identified 73 locations where the tag "GAFI" appeared. The "tags" have been located on citizen's private property, City of St. Catharines property and public utility property.
The offences are believed to have occurred between October of 2018 and January of 2020.

In February of 2020 uniform officers from the 2 District Niagara Falls office of the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a number of break and enters to businesses in the city.
The investigation of the break and enters was taken over by detectives from the 2 District Street Crime Unit.
As a result of that investigation, on March 10, 2020, a local man and woman were arrested.

On December 21, 2019, 8 District Grimsby officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service commenced an investigation into an alleged stranger sexual assault that occurred in Sherwood Park on Hedge Lawn Drive in Grimsby.
The investigation has been ongoing by detectives from the Sexual Assault Unit. Detectives have determined that there is no concern for public safety from a stranger suspect as it relates to this matter.

In November of 2019, detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) commenced an investigation into allegations of a historic sexual assault.
The investigation has revealed that between 2009 - 2011 a male under the age of 16 was allegedly sexually assaulted in the City of Welland by an adult male.
On Wednesday March 11, 2020 detectives arrested a 64-year-old male as a result of this investigation.
